Cover for an anthology of stories edited by Susan Price and published by Kingfisher. The book includes stories by Stephen King, John Steinbeck and Philip K Dick. The story on which this illustration is based is derived from an old folk tale concerning a mother who had buttons for eyes. This seemed extremely creepy to me. My original sketch had one of the buttons hanging by a thread but the publishers thought that was a step too far.
