This is my first sketch for The Fighting Fantasy book Return to Firetop Mountain. The publishers asked me for some changes but, after all these years, I think I prefer this to the eventual image. It has a humorous manic quality which is missing in the eventual painting. Maybe the publishers felt my sense of humour was too much to the fore.
