The Soul Flute

I recently listened to The Complete Fiction of HP Lovecraft on audio book and realised that he's forever banging on about "the whine of an accursed flute" or "a demoniac flute held in nameless paws", "blasphemous" flutes and "disgustingly carved" flutes. He obviously had a thing about flutes and it set me to wondering who might be playing them. However I don't think H.P.L. would have approved of this idea.
